Which racket should I choose?
Michelle Li was born in Hong Kong but moved to Canada in 1997 with her parents and brother. She started playing badminton at the age of 11 with her mother at the local community center. Later, a friend introduced her to her current club, where she began taking lessons and participating in local tournaments.
Her international career began around the age of 17. Li graduated from Richmond Hill High School and is currently a bachelor student at Rotman Commerce at the University of Toronto.
Her early successes included gold medals at the Canada Winter Games 2011 in women's singles and doubles with Alexandra Bruce. At the Pan American Games 2011, she continued to win gold in both women's doubles and singles.
At the 2012 Summer Olympics, she achieved fourth place in women's doubles. The following year, she became the first Pan American athlete to reach a Grand Prix Gold final and reached the quarterfinals at the All England Open.
Li won gold at the Commonwealth Games 2014 and the Pan American Games 2015. In 2016, she represented Canada at the Summer Olympics and finished second in her group in women's singles.
After injuries and surgeries, she took a break in 2017 and returned strong in 2018 with victories against strong opponents like Ratchanok Intanon.
In 2019, she defeated Tai Tzu-ying at the Japan Open and reached the semifinals. At the 2020 Summer Olympics, she reached the round of 16.
In 2022, she won silver at the Commonwealth Games and reached the quarterfinals in the BWF World Championships. It was her first quarterfinal in the BWF World Championships since 2011.
