Air Badminton – The new outdoor badminton sport!
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) was responsible for the launch of the new outdoor game, AirBadminton, in May 2019 in Asia. You use your regular badminton racket and the new Air Shuttle II badminton shuttlecocks, which have been developed in collaboration with BWF!
AirBadminton – Play badminton outside
In 2019, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) was responsible for the launch of the new outdoor badminton game – AirBadminton. In this game you use the same rackets as with ordinary indoor badminton, but with a new specially designed outdoor badminton shuttlecock called Air Shuttle!
With these shuttlecocks, the opportunity to play badminton on hard surfaces, grass and sand surfaces in parks, gardens, streets, playgrounds and beaches around the world was created. Now more people can enjoy the sport and play badminton even if they do not have an indoor court available!
AirBadminton, together with the Air Shuttle II balls, has increased accessibility and made it a more positive experience to play badminton outside. In addition, the BWF hopes to increase people’s awareness and participation in badminton in general!
Improved version of Air Shuttle II for outdoor badminton
Air Shuttle II s a new and innovative badminton shuttlecock that is designed to play with outside whether you want to play garden badminton or in the park, on the road or by the beach – These outdoor badminton shuttlecocks can be used everywhere and with advantage for garden badminton!
The shuttlecock is specially designed for outdoor use and flies perfectly through the air, which otherwise be an issue when you are outside and want to play badminton when its a little windy!
The shuttlecock is built to be less sensitive to wind, which makes it significantly easier to play with even if you are outside! The ball has a slightly heavier knop compared to ordinary schuttlecocks and plastic shuttlecock, as well as a very narrow and thin neck, and only ‘unfold’ at the top.
This construction reduces the grip of the wind in the shuttlecock and makes it fly longer and more straight, compared to ordinary shuttlecocks! Air Shuttle II is produced in nylon, which has managed to increase the durability significantly, so you can enjoy the shuttlecock for a longer period of time!
The Air Shuttle II comes in a new color that increases the visibility in outdoor environments!
The future plans for AirBadminton
The Badminton World Federation plans to build permanent outdoor courts on various surfaces, for public use around the world and will work with federations around the world, to get more people to play outdoor badminton and indoor.
AirBadminton plays a big role in this goal, as it will be easily accessible for everyone to try badminton and hopefully be adicted, while giving people from all over the world better opportunities to play badminton, even in areas with no or far to the nearest sports arena!
